We are seeking an individual with a strong desire to work in an exciting, fast-paced, team-based environment to help us develop, design, and implement new products and optimize existing products for Algo. 
 
Role Overview: 
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Hardware Engineer to join our engineering team. This player-coach role involves hands-on execution of projects while also leading a small team of 2-4 intermediate and junior engineers. The successful candidate will have a strong background in PCB layouts, schematics, and general design.

Responsibilities: 
  • Actively participate in the hands-on design, development, and execution of hardware projects. 
  • Design and develop complex PCB layouts, schematics, and circuit designs for audio and communication products. 
  • Lead and mentor a team of hardware engineers, guiding their technical development and project contributions. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including firmware, software, and mechanical engineering, to ensure cohesive integration of hardware components and bring up of new prototypes and platforms
  • Oversee project timelines, deliverables, and technical milestones, ensuring high-quality output from both individual and team efforts. 
  • Conduct design reviews, troubleshooting, and debugging of hardware issues to optimize performance and reliability. 
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends and emerging technologies, applying innovative solutions to hardware design challenges. 
  • Provide technical expertise in component selection, including evaluating the suitability of replacement components for various applications. 
  • Bring up and test new prototypes as they arrive
  • Electrical troubleshooting of new prototype boards
  • Soldering/wiring as necessary to fix prototypes
  • Read and understand data sheets
  • Select appropriate components for new designs
  • Document designs, decisions and specs
  • Develop test plans - both design test and production test
  • Lead review and development of board changes for product enhancements and/or cost reduction 

Required Qualifications 
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering, or a related field. 
  • 10+ years of experience in hardware engineering, with a focus on PCB layout, schematics, and circuit design. 
  • Proven experience in a leadership or mentorship role, guiding a team of engineers. 
  • Strong knowledge of PCB design tools and techniques, including hands-on experience with industry-standard software. 
  • Expertise in designing with analog and digital components, and experience with TI products is a significant asset. 
  • Solid understanding of signal integrity, power management, and EMI/EMC considerations. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering high-quality, reliable hardware designs. 
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Experience with electronics test equipment  
  • Electronics troubleshooting skills 
  • Ability to pick up new tools and technologies quickly 
  • Self-starter mindset 
  • Must have the unrestricted right to work in Canada without requiring sponsorship. 

Valuable Additional Qualifications 
  • Experience with low-power circuit design. 
  • Knowledge of audio and video communication hardware. 
  • Familiarity with microcontroller-based designs and embedded systems. 
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and experience in transitioning designs from prototype to production. 
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and testing standards for electronic products.
