We are seeking an individual with a strong desire to work in an exciting, fast-paced, team-based design environment to help us develop, design, and implement new products and optimize existing products for Algo.
Position Overview:
You, in partnership with Algo Mechanical Design Engineers and Algo Engineering Leadership, will serve a lead role in bringing new Algo products to market. You will utilize your mechanical design engineering skills to design and test product enclosures for aesthetic appeal, manufacturability and performance. Your inherent problem solving skills will help you identify and overcome numerous design challenges working with plastic and metal materials for high volume production. You will lead the development cycle from ideation through prototyping and testing ensuring that all quality and performance requirements are met. You will collaborate internally and with suppliers to develop innovative, aesthetic, and functional solutions to enhance the Algo product line.
Responsibilities:
· Within a collaborative design team, create and modify mechanical models and drawings for new products. Lead the process of development and experimental design including ideation, prototype, testing, customer trials and release to production.
· Design highly aesthetic and robust mechanical enclosures and assemblies to pass various reliability testing: Acoustics, vibration, ESD, water ingress (IP), corrosion, thermal cycling, impact/drop, vandal resistance etc.
· Utilize 2D and 3D CAD to communicate design intent, requirements, and inspection processes. Liaise with vendors to optimize aesthetics, cost, and manufacturability.
· Use engineering principles to analyze designs for structural integrity, thermal performance, material performance, manufacturability, and serviceability.
· Produce mechanical engineering drawings to industry standards.
· Embrace rapid prototyping solutions to accelerate the design process, encouraged to be smart and scrappy and consider new and innovative design processes that accelerate timelines and break down barriers.
· Assist in finding solutions to engineering and production issues as they arise.
· Other miscellaneous duties related to the position and as directed.
Qualifications:
· Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of experience in relevant industry in product design.
· Demonstrated ability to take ownership in projects and steer the design cycle from concept through manufacturing.
· Expertise in design for various manufacturing processes for plastic, metal, and elastomeric parts: sheet metal, injection molding, casting, extruding, machining, and 3D printing.
· Exceptional detailed and pragmatic design sense in creation of CAD models and drawings of electrical enclosures and associated hardware design and placement.
· Proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD) – SolidWorks preferred.
· Ability to produce photo-realistic renderings.
· Proficiency using all Microsoft Office products. (Excel etc.)
· Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with both team members and leadership.
· Capable of understanding and interpreting vague or ambiguous directions.
· Engineering fundamentals and skills: design process, statics, thermal, strength of materials, materials selection, tolerancing, DFX, FEA.
· Comfortable presenting ideas to engineering leadership and working collaboratively to find effective solutions.
· Experience in aesthetic and industrial design, free-form surface modeling – an asset.
Compensation
$85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
